Lemon Skunk is a Sativa hybrid strain of cannabis that is currently one of the most-consumed strains around the world. Lemon Skunk was the brainchild of DNA Genetics, a cannabis cultivation and distribution company based in Amsterdam. The strain is known for its high THC content, and it consistently makes many lists for one of the top strains worldwide.

What is the Origin of the Lemon Skunk Strain?

Lemon Skunk was first developed by DNA Genetics sometime around 2005 in Amsterdam. After winning several awards for its unique combination of terpenes and flavors, Lemon Skunk spread across the rest of Europe. Now, Lemon Skunk is available throughout much of the world and is especially popular in North America.

The Lineage Of Lemon Skunk

DNA Genetics created Lemon Skunk using two distinct phenotypes of the Skunk strain. These phenotypes are unique for their lemon traits, hence the name given to the strain. The Skunk strain has been used to produce many different hybrids, and Lemon Skunk has even produced its own hybrid children, including Lemon Oasis.

Lemon Skunk History

In the mid-2000s, DNA Genetics began experimenting with new cannabis hybrid combinations. In 2005, using two phenotypes of the Skunk strain that displayed exceptionally strong lemon traits, DNA Genetics first created Lemon Skunk. Subsequently, Lemon Skunk went on to win first place at the 2007 Outdoor Highlife Cup.

The following year, the Lemon Skunk strain also won first place for Indoor Hydro Spannabis and second place in the IC420 Breeders Cup. Its quick popularity and notoriety helped spread the new hybrid throughout Europe. However, DNA Genetics retained the vast majority of the initial cultivation to ensure its quality.

Today, Lemon Skunk is one of the most popular strains for both recreational and medical users. Its lemon flavor and potential energizing high are great for both cannabis connoisseurs and first-time users. Additionally, Lemon Skunk is widely available throughout the world, giving millions of people easy access to an already popular strain.

How Is The Lemon Skunk Strain Grown?

Lemon Skunk can be grown in both indoor and outdoor environments, though it typically thrives in outdoor environments, as it needs plenty of space to grow. The plant requires moderate temperatures, typically between 20 – 26 degrees Celsius. Many growers choose the Lemon Skunk strain because it produces high yields, as long as the soil is also of high quality. Additionally, Lemon Skunk plants generally flower in just 8 – 9 weeks.

Physical Traits of the Lemon Skunk Strain

What Does Lemon Skunk Look Like?

Lemon Skunk is distinctive for its coloration and the thickness of hairs on its flowers and nugs. It generally has light green flowers with a strong mixture of orange. However, most Skunk hybrids also share the latter quality. Finally, upon closer inspection, the orange hairs on Lemon Skunk flowers and nugs are typically short and thick.

What Aroma Does Lemon Skunk Have?

Though it probably goes without saying, Lemon Skunk has a strong lemon and citrus aroma. However, like many Skunk hybrids, it also has a strong earthy smell. Lemon Skunk is somewhat unique, though, as these two scents mix in a way that also creates a strong scent of pepper.

What flavors can you expect from Lemon Skunk?

Lemon Skunk tastes a lot like it smells. Users are likely to taste citrus, lemon, and even hints of pine. Additionally, many Skunk varieties produce a light pepper flavor, which is almost spicy in nature. While Lemon Skunk’s aroma is certainly its most distinctive trait, Lemon Skunk is also distinguishable for its delicious and altogether unique flavor.
